Do you struggle to get up in the morning? Do you snooze your alarm ten times to avoid the effort it takes to get out of bed? If you struggle with mornings, it can be helpful to get into a good routine that’ll help you have a more productive day.

1. Establish a wake-up time

 

 

Whatever your personality, to get into a good routine it’s vital that you pick a wake-up time that works for you. Often, getting out of bed is the hardest part so if we can get that part sorted then you’ll be good to go!

Early Birds may like to set their alarms for an early hour, maybe 4 or 5:00 am as this will give you plenty of time to get everything in and avoid any rushing. Set your alarm the night before and be prepared to jump straight out of bed!

Night Owls may find this part of the morning the most difficult, so why not try setting your alarm for an hour earlier than you need to get up? That way, you’ll have time to relax in bed and psyche yourself to get out of bed.

Hummingbirds could find that both strategies work for them, so try doing both regularly and see which one you find the most helpful. Pay attention to what works best for you and go with that!

 

2. Make time for self-care

 

 

Nobody likes rushing and, in the morning, it can set the tone for your day.

By making time for yourself and taking the time to do what makes you feel good, you can take control of your morning and start your day the right way.

Early Birds could make time for a long shower, a peaceful moment for meditation or sitting down and planning the day. Whatever gives you that boost of energy and makes you feel good, make time for it in your morning routine.

A Night Owl’s saviour could be a large cup of anything caffeinated to prepare you for the day. Get your coffee, open your curtains, and take your time getting ready to slowly wake you up and get you ready for the day ahead.

Hummingbirds may chop and change what you feel is the right self-care for you. Take your time getting ready, jot down your thoughts and feelings in a journal to practice mindfulness and enjoy a relaxed start to your day.

 

3. Prepare a healthy breakfast

 

 

Studies have shown that many health benefits come with eating a healthy breakfast such as improved energy levels, increased concentration, and boosted brainpower.

Make sure you fit breakfast into your morning routine; it’s important!

Early Birds can spend some time in the kitchen in the morning, enjoying the productivity of making a healthy breakfast. Take the time to make something you enjoy that will give you the energy you need early in the morning.

Night Owls may be tempted to skip breakfast together as you sleepily make your way through the morning. Eating breakfast will boost your energy so make something you enjoy, and it’ll help you get through your morning and make it more pleasant!

Hummingbirds could prepare breakfast, depending on how you feel during the day. If you’ve had a late night and are feeling sleepy, make something quick that you enjoy. Or if you’re feeling energised, take to the kitchen!

 

4. Do some light exercise or meditation

 

 

Exercise releases endorphins lowers blood pressure, improves heart health, and improves the quality of sleep; how fitting!

Early Birds could find that the morning is the best time to do exercise. If you’re the most energised in the morning, do a workout and release those endorphins that’ll set you up for your day.

Night Owls may struggle to motivate themselves to exercise so why not go for a walk? The fresh air will help to wake you up, release endorphins and give you a chance to practice some mindfulness as you go for a morning stroll.

Hummingbirds could find it useful to do some meditation to prepare them for the day ahead. If you lack energy, some peaceful meditation could be a good middle ground as you build up your energy for the day.

 

5. Prioritise sleep the night before

 

 

To have a productive morning, a good night-time routine is necessary so that you wake up feeling refreshed no matter what your personality is.

Early Birds are the most productive in the morning, so ensure you have a relaxing night and are ready to face the next day. Unwind with a bubble bath, and a hot drink and prioritise a good sleep so you can regain your energy for the morning.

Night Owls are the most productive at night, so use it to your advantage and get things done! If there are things you need to get done that you struggle to do in the mornings, use your late-night energy to your advantage!

Hummingbirds may find themselves deciding what works best for them at the moment. If you lack energy, don’t push yourself but take the time to unwind and relax and put your effort into a productive morning the next day.
